If Simba was human, who would she be?

just a funny thought, perhaps just an excuse to put up kirsten dunst photo.

the unifying factors (from the picture):

1) both like grass
2) both very photogenic
3) both bring a smile to many ppl's faces

funny thoughts are really amusing
kudos to ravi 4 recommending elizabethtown, both movie and music, a movie about growing up, becoming a man, falling in love, facing the past, embracing the future

anyone up for a roadtrip? Simba says ME!

Simba Boneing

The title was just a cheeky pun la. The content of this post is rated G.

After a delicious sunday carnivorous lunch at World Famous Singapore's Numero Uno Bak Kut Teh @ Sin Min, we decided to save Simba a long Bak Kut for her lunch snack. Without any way of carrying the Bak Kut away without looking like Captain Caveman running away with a bone in his hands, we collectively decided to slot the Bak Kut precariously into the shiny plastic wrapper of the wet tissues. On the record, we needed 2 wrappers as the Bak Kut was really too long (only Singapore's Numero Uno BKT would have had such a long BK)

After a long boil of 45 mins, the bone was ready. Simba did not suspect anything, she thought it was Bruce cooking his 1000th Packet of Mee goreng. When presented with the bone, Simba instinctively took it away like how a marathon runner grabs his plastic cup of water and goes. She went to her favourite mat and started nibbling away, i guess the best parts were the pieces of tendon and meat still stuck on the bone.

The nibbling soon became full scale devouring. I cannot find any other way to describe her bone eating as organismic. Her teeth crunching away, ploughing through what she thinks is a gift from the heavens, eyes rolled back. If dogs could talk, she probably would have said, " shiok man, where you buy from? next time must chio! Hmmmm Sedap! Semua Tak Mao!" Ok she prob wont. Anyway everyone knows that dogs dont talk. Maybe she would have just said, "Thank you Sin Min BKT!"

Simba's 'Better than WHat you had for dinner meals'

Recently, Simba ate her food reluctantly. Perhaps its because its the same food she's been eating for 1 year. Imagine eating the same food for 1 year!

So We agreed to test out the tingkat meals offered by US Dog Bakery.

This Week's Menu may even seem better than what we humans eat daily!

Grilled Cheese & Chix Steak
Honey Baked Lamb
Chix Stuffed in Tomato
Spaghetti with Special Bolognise Sauce
Braised Chix with Rice & Oat Pudding

These are pictures of Simba's first high class meal: Honey Baked Lamb with Macaroni

She finished her meal in less than 1 minute!
and looked very satisifed.

Kudos to US Bakery

Bangkok Blues
Both Sims and I agree that we are sad and we miss mummy. Sighs. Come back safe n sound!

Turquiose Room

Jordan and Simba
Today we brought Simba, to meet Ravi and eels at Turquoise room, one of the few places which allows dogs on their premises. It was shame though that it was hot and hazy, so we opted to sit indoors, and had to leave poor Sims hanging outside.

Fortunately there was a little girl, the owner's daughter, by the name of Jordan (such a cool name for a girl) who decided to make SImba her project. She played with sims, talked to Sims, got her a drink etc. Sims of course was nonchalent, more preoccupied by the fact Bruce wasn't at her side. But nontheless, it was cute to see the two of them together.

7 year old Jordan and 7(in dog years) year old Simba. Girrl friends! We'll definetely be back with Sims.

Indulgent?

It seems almost indulgent to have a blog that centres around a dog. Really?

In Hong Kong dogs are no longer called pets, they are called companion animals. They want to elevate the status of dogs in the families of Hong Kongers. In Singapore, we're far less advanced, lets not even talk about labels. There are too few places that allow pets oops companion animals to enter. There aren't that many dog friendly cafes, or that many dog friendly parks either. So a Singaporean dog has to really contend with spending a huge portion of its life in a 5 room HDB flat.

Anyway, is this really a blog about a dog? Maybe, but I think its more about how our lifes have been changed/ influenced/ enlightened by the presence of another creature in it. Hence its really a blog about our lives. Our dog's lives chronicles aroud ours. How we live our lives determines how she would live hers. So its not quite a blog about a dog, its a blog about a pair of novice dog owners I would say.

And when you feel a tad bit down and frustrated, somehow the smile of a dog, that knows its life is in your hands, is just that much more endearing.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” (Mahatma Gandhi)

Simba-the Siow's Best Friend

The thing about dogs is that they're never judgemental, always spontaneous and ever loving. Yes we've all heard that one before.

It's been tuff at work these few days, tiring to say the least, but each time I come home at night, its wonderful to have ickle sims jumping up at you, and welcoming you home. Her energy is bountiful, focing me to give her a tired smile, no matter how awful I feel.

I think she has given us much more than we have given her. People never seem to understand though, yup yup dogs aren't the same as children, a dog isn't a child - but in my little tired world--- sometimes i think they are heaps better.

They are the epitome of unconditional love. So I think therefore they should be allowed entry into church, what better way to teach our kids what is unconditional love than to show them the inexplicable bond that dog has for man.

Simba's FIrst Birthday

The 1st Birthday of Simba, the World's Best Dog
Simba was born on the 1st of October 2005.

Thats as true as the shop assistant claims so. Prob a good estimate as we bought her when she was 3 months old in December 2005.

Everyone said it was a crazy idea but were drawn to the party with keen interest. Simba was blessed with a bombardment of wonderful gifts. From a 'punching bag' toy, newspaper roll, brownies to yummy snacks from her uncles and aunties (Thank you everyone). She may not know that it was her birthday but prob knew it was her lucky day as the presents and delicious snacks flowed in like champange on a pyramid of glasses.

Her dinner started with lamb balls as appetizers, main course was a delicious chicken pie and dinner was finished off with a slice of her birthday cake. We felt her tummy after she consumed all that, it was as hard as rock. Im not looking forward to her disposals this morning though.

Her birthday song was the funniest thing of the night. Everyone started singing the first two lines loudly but slowly as people realised they were singing to a dog, less and less voices could be heard. That was then I realised that everyone who came really actually came as they loved Lin and me and our peculiar interests. As a normal person would think a birthday party for a dog is a weird idea. Therefore, our conclusion is that firstly, our friends love and care for us a lot to do silly things for us. (Cross-reference to wearing green on our wedding day). Secondly, people will find any reason to gather for a good time. Thirdly, I do believe that everyone has a place for this wonderful dog in their hearts (ok maybe not all).

All in all, it was a good time for catching up for everyone, from tennistical Anthoony to tai tai aka shophouser elaine. It was a fantastic time for a dog brought into this world approximately one year ago. I wonder who would be looking forward to next year more? The humans or the human-like dog.

cheers

Simba Lives!

We are starting this blog to chronicle the uber-wonderful Life of our dog, Simba. and the otherwise mundane lives of the Siows.
